I'm enjoying food for what it is...a means of sustaining body energy/health and for enjoyment. I'm not using it as a means of soothing myself. Ironically, the band has helped me enjoy food.
Before surgery I was scared about how much I'd deprive myself, but to be honest I never really ate to enjoy food and didn't realize this till I got the band. I really ate food to function and to deal with stress. And to be honest on a daily basis, I'd abuse food. Now I eat less but I'm more selective about what I eat and I savor it. I don't eat to numb stress. I'm dealing with stress. Breaking the pattern of stress eating is key for me to losing and sustaining weight loss.
Thank you band!
I love how upbeat you are, Rachel! You always have something positive to say about your experience with the band and I'm so happy for you. You're my role model. :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a victory!
ReplyDeleteAmen sista!!
ReplyDeleteAnother fan of Rachel's here! Thanks for sharing your wise insights. Keep 'em coming!
ReplyDeleteYay-- this is definitely one of the best things about the band.
ReplyDeleteOnce again I need to say Amen sista...to your words on my blog!!
ReplyDeleteIsn't it amazing how you really taste food differently when you actually slow down and it is not about volume and overeating..a true revelation! Also, big congrats on not stress eating with work..I have really fallen prey to that recently and need to work on it..
ReplyDeleteYou are so right Rachel.
ReplyDeleteOld me- how much can I eat of that
New me - a taste of this or that is fine and enough
I think the band and PB experiences have conditioned to me to realize that a taste of this or that is enough.. IF I eat more, I will pay the price and that is PB'ing, and I absolutely hate that.. I went through a period of time when I could not strike the balance of wanting to eat vs. eating much smaller amounts and was literally throwing up every meal.. you can enjoy the taste of food without feeling deprieved... hugs sweetie
