My Weird Patterns of Weight Loss

My weight loss has been weird and not text book by any means.  I lost 10 lbs immediately after surgery and then I'd lose ounces/nothing and then suddenly drop 5-7 lbs.  Those several sets of weeks with ounce losses drive me crazy...I always feel that I deserve more!  But then the 5-7 lb loss would encourage me to go on.

People have complimented my positive attitude and I have to say I need to be my own cheer leader to keep going sometimes. I feel that my journey has not been standard in anyway because I also have some issues with my thyroid (had part of it removed 12/2010) and I feel that my body chemistry is trying to stablize, and I'm in premenopause and I have a very sedentary corporate lifestyle that I'm trying to make more active.  These are not excuses; just things I have to face and address everyday...Regardless, I'm still losing weight, just in a weird way.  Before I never could lose any weight...nada...so I'm thankfulf for the band...even with the weird losses...a loss is a loss is a loss...

Thanks for listening...you are my cheerleaders too...online support has been invaluable.

  1. Hi Rach!! .. I think you are more normal at losing than you think.. many bandsters hover at a certain WL.. I do think the body needs to catch up. I see it in myself.. I have written about this many times.. its all about math.. calories in calories burned .. You might want to try something a bit crazy.. but give it a shot.. On Friday's make that your day at work to get out of your office and move.. if you can go out side and walk that would be best.. if not walk your facility. I have started to do this on Friday's and then on Saturday and Sunday I am reving it up just a bit.. those three days of consecutive exercise and watching what I eat (no business dinner committments) seem to give me a bit of a jump start.. I carry my BB when I go for my Friday walk and I just tell my AA that I will be out of the office for an hour.. and I go.. so I am connected but also sticking to my commitment. I will tell you my food choices are weird.. I do EAS protein shakes, yogurt and hummus or turkey chili.. get the protein in and then pick at everything else.. I just want to say this is what I figured out that works for me, it may not work for anyone else.. but you are still losing weight and that's the point.. you are going in the right direction!!!

  2. I do this, actually. I tend to see very small losses followed by a big drop, and then very small losses again. It's my normal pattern.

  3. You're right, because surgery we lost nothing! A lose is a lose! Keep up the work!

  4. I know exactly how you feel - I'm in one of those "no loss" phases at present - then suddenly it will fall off me for a couple of weeks. I've given up trying to work it out - am just going with the flow!

  5. I know how you feel, when ever I have a good loss it is followed by a bounce. Sometimes it feels like we are stuck for so long and then the scales drop. it's like they are testing us, or maybe it is actually our minds testing us - see how much we really want the loss and makes us work for it all the time :o)

  6. My weight loss is steady but SLOW. I lose a pound here, a pound there...so it works out to about 4 lbs a month but I'll take it. As long as it keeps heading downward, I'm happy.
