Excellent Blog on Recent Bad Band Press! Read it Don't Get Discouraged!!!

Check out Sarah's blog at Weighing In.  She works at a WLS Office and she is a successful bandster herself.  The recent bad band press is skewed...her blog puts some perspective on it.  Strangely enough, I wasn't too swayed by the recent bad press because the band has really started to work well for me.  I was an initial slow loser but I also had a thyroid removal two months after my band and was adjusting to thyroid meds, while adjusting to my band.  I finally feel like I'm getting the hang of the band and the new lifestyle.

I've lost 6 lbs in the last week...but more importantly I'm feeling much healthier.  I'm so thankful.  And at the same time I'm trying to be good about following the "rules" and not abusing my band.

I'm so thankful for the BAND...it is the discipline I needed.

  1. I was really glad to read my surgeon's commentary on that study as well....it's so good to know that the new model bands and improved technique make a HUGE difference in outcomes :) Congrats on your recent loss....thyroid surgery REALLY messes with your body, glad to hear you are getting back on track now!

  2. I haven't really given any weight to the "bad" statistics that have been floating around. If you look hard enough you will find good and bad studies about every single thing in life. And unless you know every detail of a study, you have no way of knowing the reliability of it. Anything data can be slanted to support your stance. Anyway, thanks for sharing this though! I'm so glad your getting into the swing of things with the band now!

  3. I am not discouraged. I think a little bit on it but I feel confident in the choice I made. All I can do is be educated on what I can do if problems arise! I feel like proactivness (is that a word?) is the best way to be. I haven't been proactive in the past...note weight gain. But I can be now!

  4. Amen! :) I don't trust studies that show things in a bad light like that one did, seems like the person who wrote it was either anti WLS, or pro gastric gypass.

  6. I haven't given too much credence to the studies recently either. Seems any statistics can be skewed to say whatever you want them to...good or bad. 6 lbs in a week is unbelievable!!
