Down 17 lbs and I think I can do this!

I had posted that I lost 10 lbs post surgery and that by my first fill I hadn't lost anything more.  This last week, I went down 7 lbs.  I think exercise, minimizing salt and 5 weeks of careful eating(not perfect eating but highly improved eating) just kicked in...so I'm now 17 lbs down.  This is the most I've lost in over 10 years.

Thanks for all your encouragement.  It really helped me to read through the blogs of bandster veterans to see what is normal and what is not.  The blogging community has been such a blessing.  17 is a significant number to me because this morning when I saw my weight I felt like I could succeed at weight loss.

  4. Whoa, it IS a small world. I completely understand what you mean about being surrounded by skinny people. I used to teach English to adults here, and the women were the worst for commenting on my weight--either trying to give me diet advice, or just flat-out telling me how fat I am.

Now I teach kids, so I still get lots of comments but I don't take offense to it so much because, well, they're kids. And most of time, it's just an observation rather than a tactless insult.

  8. I'm coming back after reading your comment on my post yesterday about your PA saying you need to drink protein shakes between meals. In general once you are eating regular foods it is always best to get your nutrients from actual food rather than supplements. I don't know if you are having trouble meeting their protein standards or if there is some other medical reason they would be telling you that. My surgeon says to eat 50 grams of protein a day which I can almost always do without protein shakes. I am a vegetarian so sometimes I have to work at it, but I think most meat-eaters can get at least that without too much effort.

I know there are several different types of protein shakes and they are not all gross. If you have one that you don't like, you might shop around a bit. I like Premier Nutricion products. I get the pre-made shakes at Costco and they taste good and only have 160 calories for 30 grams of protein. I only have them occassionaly, but they're a good thing to have around.
